Leather Jackets

Biker, cafe racer, bomber, trucker, vests and women’s cuts. One all-in price with freight and US duty inside it.

Pattern-making and duty included. Credited in full against your first order

If a leather order has gone wrong on you before, it was almost certainly the grade rather than the workmanship. Somebody quoted top-grain and shipped split, or said “genuine leather” and let you fill in the rest. Neither shows in a photograph; both show in a return rate.

So this page starts with the grades. The grade written on your quote is the grade in your order, and we will tell you which one suits the price you are selling at — including when that is a cheaper one.

Who it is for

Who this is for

Sellers running leather on Shopify, Etsy or TikTok Shop who need to restock a style that is working, and small brands putting out a first run without committing to a hundred pieces a colour.

A typical first order is one to twenty pieces of one style, to see whether it sells. A typical second is fifty of the same thing, four weeks later. We are built for that pattern.

Leather grades, explained

This is where a serious buyer decides whether a supplier knows leather or just buys it. Here is the whole vocabulary.

OptionWhat it isCostHow it behaves
Full-grainThe whole hide, nothing sanded awayHighestDevelops a patina. Lasts decades
Top-grainSanded and finished for consistencyHighAges well. The usual choice for retail
SplitThe lower layer, below the top grainMediumSofter, less durable. Fine for linings
Genuine leatherA grading term, not a quality claimLowAsk what it actually is
BondedScraps glued onto a backingLowestPeels within a season. We do not use it
PUNot leather at allLowestFine when it is labelled as PU

For a jacket retailing between $150 and $250, top-grain is almost always right: it takes colour evenly, ages well, and does not carry the price of full-grain into a bracket where the customer will not notice it. Full-grain makes sense above that.

We describe materials the way the FTC leather rules require, so what is on your label is what is in the jacket.

Ask any supplier three questions: which grade, what thickness in millimetres, and which tannery. One who can answer all three knows what they bought.

Sizing for US customers

More than 1,000 jackets a month leave our line for the US market, and we track what comes back and why.

Leather runs tighter than the same measurement in a woven fabric: a chest that works in a hoodie generates returns in a biker jacket. We send you the size chart and our return data with your sample, and we will say if the size run you have asked for is going to cost you money.

Questions buyers ask

Questions buyers ask about leather orders

Everything we are asked before a first order, answered here rather than in an email thread.

Hides vary naturally — that is leather rather than a defect, and a jacket with no variation at all is usually not leather. We work to a stated tolerance on colour and grain, cut a whole order from the same batch wherever the quantity allows, and re-cut when a batch falls outside tolerance.

Both come from finishing rather than from the hide. Chrome-tanned leather carries a chemical smell if it is rushed through drying, and stiffness comes from a finish that has not been broken. We condition and break the leather before packing, and we will tell you how your grade behaves in its first month so you can set that expectation in your own product copy.

We publish size charts with a how-to-measure guide, and we send you the return patterns we see across the US-bound jackets we already produce. If your size run looks like it will generate returns, we say so before you order.

Chrome-tanned leather can carry chromium VI, which is listed under California Proposition 65 and has been the subject of settlements over leather goods. We hold test reports on the leathers we use. Test reports sent on request.

Usually, yes. Send photographs and, if you can, the jacket itself. We will re-engineer it as your own design. We will re-engineer it to your specification, your fit and your label.
